Digital music is by far the most popular medium for listening to music in this day and age. To keep listeners engaged, at the end of each year, Spotify, the world’s most popular music streaming service, releases “Spotify Wrapped”, a collection of personalized statistics designed to give an overview of each person’s listening history and habits over the past year. Each year, there is a buzz in Talawanda classes, anticipating its release.

Spotify, besides being popular all over the world, is particularly popular amongst youth. At Talawanda High School, students and faculty were given the opportunity to share their Spotify Wrapped statistics with the Talawanda Tribune for us to analyze. Below are the top genres and minutes listened for our participating teens and teachers:

Aside from these general statistics, here are some anecdotes that caught our attention:

• Two people at Talawanda listened to The Weeknd the most during 2024, while another two people listened to Taylor swift the most. This was the most overlap we had in terms of musical artists. Talawanda listeners have a very diverse taste!

• Jacob Scott, a social studies and government teacher at Talawanda, listened to over 7,000 minutes of podcasts during 2024.

• One student was in the top 0.005% of listeners worldwide to their top song in 2024. Impressive!

“Spotify Wrapped” is one of the most anticipated moments on social media each year. This compilation gives people all across the world, as well as in our community, an opportunity to share their passion for music, as well as discuss and bond over their similarities and differences. It also gives the individual an opportunity to look at how their music tastes have changed from the previous year, and get a glimpse into how much music has impacted their life. We can’t wait to see how students’ passion for music evolves throughout 2025!
