The Skills for Work Level 5 Sport and Recreation Course provides a basis for progression into further education and training/employment in the Sports and Recreation sector. The Course will enable candidates to develop the general and practical skills, knowledge and understanding and employability skills and attitudes needed in the sector. Candidates will work under supervision in an appropriate sport and recreation environment, but will be expected to become actively involved with customers and operational staff.
This course is suitable for students who have an interest in sports or fitness, not necessarily at a competitive level. The course aims to develop students vocational and employability skills rather than work around individual sports.
Assisting with Activity Sessions
Candidates, under supervision, prepare for a series for activity sessions and deliver part of each session.
Assisting with Fitness Programming
Candidates, under supervision, take a number of ‘clients’ through fitness testing, training programmes, and re-tests.
Assisting with Daily Centre Duties
Candidates undertake several regular duties that are relevant to the sporting life of the school, with aims to work alongside local leisure facilities.
Employment Opportunities in the Sport and Recreation Industry
Candidates research employment opportunities and produce a career plan that maps out how they can get there.
Assessment is ongoing throughout the course, through both written and practical tasks. All tasks must be passed to complete the course. All work is checked by a school-based internal verifier and samples given for external verification. This course is a Pass/Fail.
