When talking about what classes they need to take and what classes they want to take - have a conversation about time commitments and what's reasonable. Use the Schedule Planning Tool to plan out each day and see if there is enough time for school, homework, activities, chores, and of course, family.
Review course catalog together, it is linked from the main registration page and their 'class of' pages. For some courses, the catalog includes links to videos and FAQs so you can learn more about the course. Be sure to look at prerequisites as well as if there is any summer work requirements in addition to the estimated number of hours of homework a week. If your student is active or your summer is booked - please think twice about course selections.
Ask your student to show you their weekly estimate for minutes of homework and if there are any classes they want to take with summer work responsibilities. Talk to them about how this fits in with their approach to school and their other activities (summer time ones and school year ones)
Visit the Future Freshman (even if your student is going to be in a higher grade level) and More Helpful Info pages for more information about what THS has to offer.
Talk with your student about how registration requests are very important to be done on time and with accuracy. Classes that are requested by the student (first choices and alternates) that the student ends up in - are not subject to being changed. Tahoma only corrects schedule errors (missing class period or wrong level of class). Tahoma cannot accommodate changes due to student enrollment numbers.
Students need to submit their requests through their Skyward Access, not Family Access. If your student needs a password reset, they can find the person to contact on the Home page (scroll down to view contact information for middle schools and high school).
