GED

March 22

This is the last week of winter quarter. We'll have a 2 week break from live sessions and new website content, resuming on April 12. The science page will remain up during that time, but will be replaced by social studies during the new quarter. I will be available via email or text during much of the break, so let me know if you have questions.

Welcome to TCH's winter quarter, January 19-March 25. Following our typical schedule, the focus this quarter will change from Social Studies to Science. However, since we're living in tumultuous times, a good deal of the Language Arts page will focus on readings and writing assignments about current events.

  • This is a self-paced class. Live Zoom meetings occur at a scheduled hour, but many of them will be available as videos later. Do the work as it fits with your schedule.

Live Zoom classes will begin in week 2, on January 25. These are optional.

Please watch the video and/or read the text below to learn more about what to expect this quarter and what my expectations are for you.

What you can expect from me:

  • New content uploaded on the website each week.

  • Availability to help you navigate the website and the content.

  • Judgement-free support: these are hard times. I want this experience to be a bright spot in your life, not another sourced of anxiety.

My expectations for you:

  • Check in via the attendance form at the bottom of this page on every day you work on content.

  • If you are new, I would like to meet you via Zoom in the first week. I am also available to meet with returning students this week if you would like. Use the attendance form to let me know when a good time will be for me to contact you via Zoom. If you are new, please provide me an email address where I can send you a meeting link. If you have not used zoom before don't worry. It's easy--you'll just have to click on the link and permit zoom meetings on your computer. Also, while I would like to see your face at least in the first meeting, I will never require you to turn on your camera.

  • Two additional individual Zoom meetings mid-quarter and at the end of the quarter. These meetings will be scheduled later.

  • Participation on the class discussion boards for science and language arts each week.

  • Keep in touch with me. I want to know if you have questions or need some extra help. We can do this by email, text, zoom, or phone.

  • Finally, relax and get the most out of the class that you can according to what your life will permit. These are tough times and you are juggling many responsibilities. What I want most for you in this class is to feel supported and successful.

Schedule

Independent work: Math, Science, Language Arts: weekly content uploaded each Monday morning. Complete the assignments at times convenient for you.

Live work (beginning week 2) This will require you to log into your email and click on a Zoom meeting link I send at the beginning of each session. If you are unable to attend at that time, I will post a link to the recorded session so you can view it at your convenience.

Math M, T, W: Live instruction via Zoom 10-11 a.m.

Th: Open question session for any math related questions you have.

Science Th: Group session with discussion and questions related to the week's content.

Language Arts W: Group discussion on week's content/reading

Please note: None of the live sessions are required; I understand that many people's lives are hectic. However, I'm really hoping to connect with you in real time, so if you can make any sessions, please do. Also, I'm happy to have individual zoom sessions or phone calls with you as my schedule permits. Just keep in touch! My email address is cjensen@tacomacommunityhouse.org.

Please check in with the form below on every day that you do any GED/BEdA work. Your help is appreciated!
