Tacocat Wellness
What is Tacocat Wellness?
Tacocat Wellness is a trauma-informed somatic therapy practice. We hold an anti-oppression and abolitionist framework, working to recognize and name the harm caused by many social constructs.
We support folks to heal through their traumatic lived experiences by unlearning, rethinking, and repairing their relationship with their nervous system.
Tacocat wellness is dedicated to providing an anti-racist, LGBTQIA2S+ affirming, Fat Positive, Sex Positive, Disability & Neurodivergent affirming space for those seeking mental health support. This practice also supports harm reduction and safe-use methods.
Further, we acknowledge the trauma associated with social constructs and institutions including but not limited to religion, academics, medical care, and social services.
Who does Tacocat Support?
We specialize in holding space for folks who have a history of traumatic lived experiences, as well as those who hold identity intersections that are often systemically marginalized and under-supported.
We aim to create "containers of support" for those experiencing (or w/a history of):
Anxiety
Depression
C-PTSD & PTSD - including SA
Neurodivergence (Autistic or Allistic) w/wo: ADHD, OCD, EDS, SPD
Disordered eating, including ARFID
Self harm
We believe there is a great amount of privilege associated with being able to gain access to formal diagnoses. We acknowledge the barriers to gaining access to these services and support self-assessment, along with self-diagnosis. If you are currently questioning your relationship to a particular condition, we're here to support you through that experience as well.
What does Tacocat mean?
Tacocat is a palindrome - a word or number that reads the same forwards and backwards. The word “palindrome” is the marriage of two Greek roots: palin, meaning again, and drom meaning to run - Running back again.
The significance here is that we often see people with traumatic lived experiences reverting to old coping mechanisms and safety strategies that worked for them and their nervous systems in the past; these conditioned and learned responses are biologically hardwired responses that we find ourselves “running back to again” when we are triggered.
Although these strategies have given us the perception of safety in the past, they may no longer be conducive to your overall mental wellness. The goal at Tacocat Wellness is to support people to live as their authentic selves in a way that feels good for the mind, body, and spirit.
