What is the School Health Advisory Council?

A School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) is a group appointed by the school district to serve at the district level. Members of the SHAC come from different areas of the community and from within the school district. The majority of members must be parents who are not employed by the district. The education , public health, and school health sectors have each called for greater alignment, integration, and collaboration between education and health to improve and each child's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development. The WSCC model has ten components:

  2. Nutrition environment and services.

  4. Social and emotional school climate.

  5. Physical environment.

  6. Health services.
