Notes from the Editor

Dear Readers,

Fall is officially here, ushering in those lovely warm hues, PSLs, and the anticipation of holidays coming up in the next couple of months. August was an eventful, Space-themed month for the Savannah Coastal Empire chapter of SWE. Some of the highlights for August were: a special Space themed edition of the newsletter, the official launch of the Vine & Verse book club, and a fun IDEAS lab activity for children. We've also had some bittersweet moments of bidding farewell to Sashi Babu (Outreach Chair) and Yohanna White (Technical Writer), who were an integral part of our core team - they will be sorely missed and we all wish them the best for their future endeavors.

This month, we have plenty of activities lined up as well as volunteering opportunities. We have a fun contest for you to name our newsletter, the Mighty Eighth Air Force museum is hosting it's annual Girls in Aviation Day event, and we have our very first in-person Book club meeting!

We're gearing up for our 10th annual Girls Engineer It Day event, and we're going to have our first volunteer meet soon. In a couple of weeks, we also have our Executive Council meeting; we welcome you to attend it if you are interested in getting involved or, even if you're curious about what we do at SWE!

Cheers,

Preeti Menon

We're Seeking a Treasurer!

If you have been on the fence about helping to support SWE, then now is your opportunity to consider a leadership position. We are in need of a new Treasurer. Spandana Chava has been our treasurer for many years, and she truly has been a TREASURE to our team. She is ready to train someone to take over her role. Although she needs to focus on her family right now, she is willing to support her replacement, as needed during the transition.

If you would like to talk directly with her about the role, please contact her through the Exec Website. If you'd like more info about specific duties, you can find them here: Section Executive Council Roles - Savannah Coastal Empire (sceswe.org)

Send us an email: sceswe@swe.org and we would be happy to have you on board!

The fiscal year financial report is due July 31st. This is perfect timing for Spandana to teach someone the steps. It doesn't take more than an hour or so to complete, because her process is very streamlined!
