Team SWE had a fantastic time at Trivia Night in April! Members from the Savannah Coastal Empire chapter as well as the Georgia Southern chapter in Statesboro convened at Starland Yard to meet new friends and test their random knowledge. We had some stiff competition (especially in the Sports round), and although we didn't get first place, fun was had by all. Let us know if you want more trivia nights in the future!
Alise Fox, an Australian mathematician, fisheries scientist, and science communicator, shares how a winding path through teaching, biomechanics, and pavement engineering led her to become a “mathmafishian” — using data to understand fish populations and support sustainable fishing policies. In conversation with host Sam East, Alise reflects on the power of “side quests” in shaping a career, from studying mushrooms with local mycology groups to painting the fish she researches for scientific reports.
