Materials Science is an interdisciplinary course that includes elements of applied chemistry and physics as well as
engineering. The course aims to understand materials such as solids, metals, polymers, composites, ceramics and glass.
The course involves relating the desired properties and relative performance of a material.
Students will perform extensive lab investigations to understand and explain the behavior of materials in a variety of
inquiry and design scenarios. Students will document their laboratory experiences in a notebook. Students will examine
current material science articles using effective reading and writing strategies. Due to the emphasis on laboratory
experiences, adherence to strict safety protocols is required at all times.
