AP Chemistry

Term: Year

Prerequisites: Accelerated Chemistry and/or Enrollment in an accelerated

math course recommended.

Credit: 1 teacher recommendation.

Grade: 11, 12

Fee: See fee schedule; Cost of required AP exam, TI-83/84 family graphing calculator is highly recommended. The purchase of text

and support materials are optional.

Some areas of theoretical chemistry explored are atomic theory and structure, chemical bonding, behavior of gases,

equilibrium, kinetics, thermodynamics, stoichiometry, and reaction types. Using descriptive chemistry, the student learns

to relate facts to theory and to analyze periodic relationships including chemical reactivity. Students also engage in

double period lab investigations to enhance their theoretical understanding of chemistry. This course requires two

instructional periods. The instructor may require summer readings and assignments.
