This course is built around Ohio’s Learning Standards along with pre-AP content as identified by the College Board.

Within complex texts, students continue to analyze structure, style, themes, figurative language, symbolism, and tone

within various works. Students evaluate historical context and textual details that contribute to various works. Student

writing emphasizes expository, analytical, and argumentative writing that forms the basis of academic and professional

communication. Students study the elements of writing style, including vocabulary, sentence structure, and logical

organization. This course prepares students for the rigorous expectations of AP courses.
