Cyber Summer is a learning module designed for teachers and school personnel seeking to master the basics of cyber security in order to keep their work and home environments safe from growing cyber threats. Over a four week period, participants will gain knowledge about topics ranging from privacy laws and ethics to simple tips for stronger protection of workstation equipment like computers and cell phones.

Week 1 - Data Privacy

Data Privacy is a concern for all of us but it is especially important for those of us handling sensitive student data. It is easy to get caught in the intricacies of student data privacy and let the web of potential worries that surround student related information overtake our job duties. By completing the course materials in week one of Cyber Summer participants will gain a deeper understanding of FERPA and other laws and regulations surrounding data privacy. Do’s and don’ts while handling student information, discussions on common student privacy and more will be presented during this ninety minute session. This module will be released on Wednesday, July 15, 2020.

Week 2 - Security Online

It has always been a challenge to stay completely protected online. Since Covid-19 cyber attacks have gone up in all realms of the internet, making it more important now than ever to do everything you can to secure yourself online. In the course materials for week two of Cyber Summer you’ll learn the essentials of online security. Two step verification, free and easy to use cyber safety tools, tips and tricks to beef up your internet security and more will be part of the ninety minute session.

Security doesn’t end once you go AFK: Away From the Keyboard. Even a small misstep in the real world can lead to severe consequences to our networks, both at home and work. In week three of Cyber Summer participants will learn what to do and what not to do to stay secure in the real world. Essentials of mobile security, understanding ethics at work and how they relate to being secure, a spotlight on adversaries that prey on our daily behavior and more will be shared in this ninety minute session.

An overview of websites that provide free medium and advanced level webinars, free-to-take cyber education courses, ways to spread cyber awareness in the community and more will be shared in this ninety minute session.
