"We never agree on anything."
"He never wants to do what I want to do."
For friendships to work, there has to be a give and take or a COMPROMISE. A compromise blends ideas together. A compromise feels good for all people involved.
Listen to what your friend wants. Share what you want. Find the common ground and suggest a new idea.
EXAMPLE
Bill: "I want to play tag."
Sarah: "I'd rather play hide and go seek."
Bill: "What if we make up a new game called hide and go seek tag?"
OR
Bill: "These are both big group games. Maybe we just play soccer with everyone else this recess."
OR
Suggest something that's similar.
EXAMPLE
Bill: "My mom says we can only have bananas or oranges for snack."
Sarah: "Oh, I don't like either of those. Do you think she'd let us have pears?"
Here Sarah asked for another fruit. It would not have been a compromise if Sarah asked for a doughnut.
AND
Sometimes you can do what your friend suggests.
Then they can do what you suggest.
Try something new! It could be fun.
Share and take turns.
