Asking Someone to Play

It can be scary asking people to play especially if you don't know them. Be confident. The worse that could happen is that they say, "no" and you ask someone else.

Know yourself: What do you like to play? Are you quiet, silly, crazy, cooky? What can you offer others?

When to ask?

Before recess

At lunch

At recess

How to ask?

Think of what you want to do and invite people to play. "Hey do you guys want to play tag?"

Be flexible and willing to try new things. "What are you guys playing? Can I play? What are the rules?"

Sit on the buddy bench. Look around to see if there's anything that looks like fun.

Still having trouble making friends?

Ask an adult for help. Mrs Chute might be able to include you in a friendship group. The teacher on recess duty may be able to help you find a game to play or group of people to play with.
