The power of YET! is truly a super power.
We don’t have control over the behaviors of others. We don’t have control over what happens to us, but we DO have control over how we react! Our reaction IS our super power.
Super power #1: TELEPORTATION-The ability to move from Zone to Zone, or to shift our emotions and to choose our emotional response.
Super power #2: BEHAVIOR-The ability to choose your behavior, or your reaction to others.
Super power #3: THE POWER OF YET!-The ability to push through hard things.
It’s important to remember that we’ve all pushed through difficult challenges, like learning to walk, talk, and tie our shoes. These challenges took months, even years to accomplish. Long division, managing our time, and learning to read are similar challenges. The duration it takes to meet our goals isn’t as important as DETERMINATION and PERSEVERANCE. These are skills to last a lifetime.
SO, HOW DO WE PERSEVERE?
WE SAY, “YET!”
We use POSITIVE SELF-TALK.
We ASK for and ACCEPT help.
We give ourselves GRACE and PATIENCE.
We BELIEVE in ourselves.
The next time you or your child are facing a struggle, are feeling discouraged or frustrated, remember the POWER OF YET! It is a powerful way to push through hard things.
Take a short break and return to the work.
Practice. Practice. Practice.
Our children are listening. Verbalize your internal voice, to model what you say to yourself when working through challenges.
EMBRACE THE POWER OF YET!
