We have learned to be flexible in 2020. That doesn’t mean that it feels any easier to experience all the changes that confront us. It just means that we’re beginning to expect the changes and learning to adapt. The way we, as adults, respond to these shifts in routine, makes a huge difference in how our children handle the changes. As the stress of change bares down on us, consider the BOUNCE BACK model of coping. As our children and as we experience challenges in our personal, career or academic lives, consider the BOUNCE BACK model.
BAD TIMES DON’T LAST. THINGS ALWAYS GET BETTER.
OTHER PEOPLE CAN HELP IF YOU TALK TO THEM.
UNHELPFUL THINKING MAKES YOU FEEL MORE UPSET.
NOBODY IS PERFECT; NOT YOU AND NOT OTHERS.
CONCENTRATE ON THE GOOD TIMES AND THE LAUGHTER.
EVERYONE EXPERIENCES SADNESS, HURT, FAILURE AND SETBACKS SOMETIMES, NOT JUST YOU.
BLAME FAIRLY. HOW MUCH WAS DUE TO YOU, TO OTHERS AND TO BAD LUCK?
ACCEPT THE THINGS YOU CAN’T CHANGE, AND WORK TO CHANGE THE THINGS IN YOUR CONTROL.
CATASTROPHISING INFLATES YOUR WORRIES.
KEEP THINGS IN PERSPECTIVE. IT’S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD.
