I have been the School Counselor at Erie Elementary School since 2011. Relationship is the key to success and I am passionate about partnering with families, students and teachers.
Prior to Erie Elementary School, I worked as a school counselor in the state of Maine. I have always been drawn to helping families and youth reach their potential. My work history includes Mercy Housing, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the YMCA, the Volunteer Center of Tucson, among other amazing experiences. I have a masters in school counseling from the University of Southern Maine.
What do you do if you're not at school?
I LOVE a good adventure and pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I believe in the power of YET and never give up!
If you can't find me at school, I am likely out on a long run, hiking or camping with my family or skiing with my 2-boys. We could be playing disc golf or kayaking. If I'm not outside you may find me reading a great book or building a challenging puzzle, playing a board game or cooking.
My family and I take lots of camping road trips. We love exploring our national parks. I've been to 24 out of 60 National Parks. My goal is to visit all of them. I've visited Venezuela, Peru, Mexico, Canada, Bolivia, Switzerland, France and Italy. I've explored ancient ruins and traveled historic trails. I have lived in five different states including Maine, where I was born, Washington, California, Arizona and Colorado. I enjoy traveling for running races and hope to do an adventure race with my siblings. I secretly hope that Bear Grylls will select me and my family for an adventure challenge that takes us repelling down cliffs, traversing rushing rivers, climbing waterfalls and shimmying across a rope connecting two sides of a deep ravine. I guess that's not a secret any more. I believe that pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones helps us grow and makes us stronger. I believe in the power of YET!
Do you have any fears?
Yes. I do have fears and I find ways to push through them. I use deep breath, positive self-talk and practice, to move past fear.
What do you want to do when you grow up?
I hope to be a School Counselor for many more years. I want to continue to travel and explore our amazing world. I imagine that when I move on to a new chapter, I will help with disaster relief in some way, either nationally or internationally. I'd also like to continue to explore the United States with my husband in a camper van, for many more great adventures.
