We can’t think of a better way to kick off our Fall Newsletter than by featuring our sweet Lacey, mom of the Easter Litter!
This devoted mama was found at a construction site with her seven puppies. While five were adopted locally, Lacey and her two remaining pups — April and Reese — joined the Surfers for Strays program in early 2024.
The puppies were quickly adopted and have brought endless joy to their furever families!

"Having Reese come live with us in Washington was the best ‘accident’ that could have ever happened... That simple 'yes' changed everything.
Keeping Reese could not have been a more perfectly placed moment in our lives. We will forever be grateful for him and deeply thankful to Surfers for Strays for bringing him into our world."
Lacey is a patient soul with a calm demeanor.
She appreciates a slow introduction to people and other dogs, but it only takes a moment before her sweet, affectionate personality shines through.
Once she trusts you, she’s all in! Snuggles, tail wags, and soulful gazes are her love language.
As if she couldn’t be any more perfect, she’s also crate and leash trained, knows her basic commands, and always aims to please!
Last summer, Jack re-entered our care after showing early signs of hip dysplasia, a condition that causes pain and mobility issues.
With the help of our amazing veterinary partner, Dr. Oscar Guadarrama, Jack received stem cell treatment and showed promising improvement.
But this summer, Jack’s condition worsened.
Jack now relies on daily pain medication, and efforts to manage his dosage have not been effective. To give him lasting relief, Jack will need FHO (Femoral Head Ostectomy) surgery. Although this procedure is invasive, Jack is an excellent candidate due to his young age and vibrant spirit.
In a beautiful act of generosity, Dr. Guadarrama has offered to fly in from Toluca to perform the surgery pro bono, with SFS covering only his travel expenses.
The operation will likely take place at NutriZoo, whose team has also stepped up to support Jack by offering the use of their clinic and surgical supplies at a reduced cost.
We are so grateful to be surrounded by such compassionate partners.

Jack has been part of the Surfers for Strays pack for a while now, and his resilience and unbreakable spirit have earned him many fans along the way.
Thank you for being a part of Jack’s journey. With your help, we’re hopeful he can have the pain-free life he so deeply deserves.
