We've moved! Please visit us at the ASN Employee Support Portal
Open Future Learning is a training platform for Direct Support Professionals and others who support people with disabilities. They provide trainings of their own, and also allow organizations like us to put our own trainings on the site. Most of the online training you do for ASN will be through OFL.
For information on setting up your account, see New Hire Instructions. All instructions on this page assume that you have logged in.
OFL has a video on How to Manage and Use Your Modules. Click on How It Works in the site menu if this link doesn't take you there.
Modules are made available based on your group (this is why we ask you to select "supported living" when creating your account). You do not necessarily have to take every module that you have access to. Please check your tasks and expirations to be sure what applies to you.
To enroll in a module, start by clicking Find New Learning Modules. You should see Staff Learning Modules at the top of the next page. Most of the modules you need are in this category, although some may be in Mini Learning Modules or Side by Side Modules.
You can use the search box to find a training by title, or click View All for a category to see the available modules.
Once you find a module you want to enroll in, click the Enroll Now button at the right hand side.
When you enroll in a module, it will open automatically. Click Begin Module (or use the navigation arrows) to get started.
You will use the arrow buttons at the top right to navigate between pages and chapters. You can also click the chapter headings to move between any completed chapters. You will not be able to navigate forward without completing prior chapters.
Each page will have some text on the left. Some also have a video or interactive image on the right. Some modules have an option to Turn Narration On (top left), which will make it read the text to you. Review the text and watch any videos before proceeding to the next page.
Some modules will prompt you with reflection questions, called Interactive Notes. These are only for your benefit, so make use of them however you wish. You can review them any time by clicking the notebook icon and/or download them at the end of the course.
When you have completed all chapters, you will go to the assessment. The number of questions varies, but you must get an 80% or better to receive credit. You can review the material and retake the assessment as many times as you need.
Once you have passed the assessment, you will receive a certificate via email. The training team is automatically copied on the email; you do not need to send the certificate separately. (If you are not receiving your certificates, even in your spam/junk folder, please contact us about changing the email on your account.)
You don't have to finish a module all at once; you can leave and return as needed. The best way to ensure that your progress is saved is to use the Close Module button at the top right.
To continue working on a module that you already enrolled in, go to the My Active Modules page. You will need to click the arrows to view modules by category. When you find the module, click Go to Module. Then you can continue as above.
If you don't see the Go To Module button, check that the training has not expired. There is a description under each module reporting the current status. Contact the training team if you need a module to be extended.
When you need to retake a module, go to the My Completed Modules page. You will need to click the arrows to view modules by category.
If you think you might need your certificate or notes from the previous time you took it, download them before clicking Retake Module. Once you've reset it, the certificate can't be downloaded again even from the admin side.
When you choose to retake the module:
it may return to Find New Learning Modules and you can enroll again
you may be re-enrolled automatically, in which case the module will open from the beginning
Either way, you will continue through the process just like before.
