PD2020: The Power of Connections

The purpose of PD2020 is to link pathways through the power of connections. Four unique pathways will be used to educate, empower and enrich participants. This shared learning opportunity will build the foundation for a train the trainer experience in your building.
Bring your district issued laptop to the in-service day. Attendance at each breakout session will be tracked through a Google Form accessible when you are logged into your sumterschools.net account.

Pathways
The Academics Pathway will provide an opportunity for teachers, administrators and other educators to learn about and connect new insights and strategies for reaching and teaching students (PreK-12). It will emphasize evidence-based and novel instructional practices currently being used in schools for motivating and engaging all students.

The Safety and Support Pathway will equip attendees with the confidence to address the diverse needs of our students, so that they feel connected and safe at school. These sessions will include expanded understanding of MTSS, the role of mental health, discipline, emergency preparedness, strategies and interventions.

The Special Services/Inclusion Pathway will inform and engage participants regarding the revolution in the area of special education. Sessions connect Special Education law and compliance, put the pieces together for inclusivity, and provide the appropriate accommodations in order to meet the needs of the students of Sumter School District.
Location: Sumter School District Annex, 220 Hasel St., Sumter, SC **Attendees, please enter the front of the building.
The Workforce Connections Pathway will enable the learner to list the 20 Soft Skills and implement some of them into the daily classroom routine. Educators will become informed and provided with resources and connections available to them and their students pertaining to current and future workforce trends.

CTE - CTE Quality Review Measures from 8:30 am to 11:45 am. Location: Lakewood High School, 350 Old Manning Rd, Sumter, SC *(CTE teachers will be able to attend Session 3 of a Pathway that afternoon.) GEAR UP & High School Math Teachers - All day Texas Instruments Training. Location: Lakewood High School , 350 Old Manning Rd, Sumter, SC (See the Workforce Connections pathway for a map of Lakewood. SCTC - Teaching to Lead, all day training. Location: Sumter Career and Technology Center
High School Spanish - Online textbook platform training from 8:30 am to 11:45 am.
