A Message from the Governors
The Governing Body believe in children receiving the best possible Primary School education. At the heart of its thinking, the Governing Body aims to provide the most suitable resources and learning environment, both inside the building and surrounding grounds, to support the children’s learning. The Governors share the same ethos as the School Management and work in partnership to achieve these aims. We hope this website will provide you with the information you need about the School and that you find it useful.
We believe we have appointed governors who have the skills to contribute to effective governance and the success of the school.
We review our effectiveness regularly, including the extent to which our size and structure is fit for purpose and our members have the necessary skills.
Our governors are encouraged to commit to training and a budget is set aside for this.
Governors hold an important office and we share their identity with the wider community. Within these pages you will find up to date details of our governance arrangements in a readily accessible format.
A code of conduct is maintained and there is an explicit agreement to the code of conduct which means there is a common reference point should any difficulties arise. All our governors have signed the code of conduct.

Coopted Governor - Vice Chair of Governors
I have been in Primary Education since qualifying as a teacher in 1979. I retired as Headteacher of Aintree Davenhill in 2014 and became a governor of Summerhill shortly afterwards. It’s a delight to work with the wonderful staff at this fabulous school, particularly on the numerous International projects we’ve been involved in over the years.
Mr Ivan Guy
Mrs Marie Bennett
I have worked in Maghull for the last fifteen years as part of the leadership team at Maghull High School. I have been a teacher for thirty years and am passionate about education. My specialism is modern foreign languages and my current responsibilities centre around safeguarding and wellbeing. I am the mother of two grown up children and in my spare time, I love to read, go for long walks and when I have the energy, run.
Mr Rob Cragg
I retired 9 years ago and before I finished work as an accountant in the NHS, I became a governor at Summerhill. It's one of the best things that I have ever done, and interacting with the children is an endless joy and privilege. I can often be seen helping out in Forest School where the children get a chance to gain an appreciation of their environment and get very dirty. I can see me being here for many years yet.
Mr Peter Rafferty
A Google Certified Trainer with many years primary school teaching experience in Maghull and currently working at a school near Lake Windemere. I have a strong and continuing enthusiasm for technology and digital skills to be at the heart of teaching and learning. I have worked creatively and innovatively with educators in the UK, Europe as well as America and South Africa.
Mr Boby Raja
LA Governor - pending cabinet
"I'm Boby and I am the Local Authority Governor at Summerhill Primary School. I am very impressed with the school’s ethos and approach to learning and very excited to be working with the school. I am keen to ensure the children are able to achieve to the best of their abilities and are happy and confident . My professional background is in the NHS and Healthcare and my current job involves programme managing key mental health transformation programmes for Greater Manchester. Although my focus is on adult mental health, I can bring knowledge and resources related to children's mental health. I also bring a range of other skills such as service improvement, analysis and problem solving and I believe I can bring a fresh perspective to the school. I also have two young children and in my free time I like to exercise and spend time with my family."
Mr Steve Forrest
Mrs Dawn Beaumont
My name is Dawn Beaumont and I am a Parent Governor at Summerhill Primary School. I have been a Governor for a number of years and I strive to enrich the school through my experience of working in higher education and within the local community. Summerhill Primary School has long held a special place in my heart having been a former pupil and with my children now attending the school. I feel very lucky to be a part of such a great school community and I am delighted to have an opportunity to contribute to this through my role as Governor.
