NEHALEM

5/31/2020

Cheers! We have almost made it to the end of this year! Well done, students and parents.

There are no new assignments this week. Scores for all assignments will be updated in PowerSchool today. Please check tomorrow to see if there are any missing assignments. If there are any assignments missing over the last couple of weeks, please try to help your child complete that work and submit it by this Friday, June 5th. You can submit the work through the Google site, email it to me, or drop it off at the school office this week from 9am-noon.

If you need help with any assignments, or if it's just not possible to complete the assignments this week, please contact me.

Parents, thank you for the support you have given your children this year, especially over these past few months. Please continue to encourage your child to read and keep those math skills sharp.

Blessings,

Ms. Elsner

4/27/2020 Hello Families!

As per the text from Mrs. Stewart, this Wednesday will be pickup day for 2nd grade materials. I will be sending home workbooks which you will keep and a math textbook and reading textbook that will need to be returned. Mrs. Stewart is working on how returns will work. I will also send home anything left in your student's desk and hopefully their PE shoes. If your child's PE shoes don't have their name in them please email me a description of them.

I have heard that many people would like this site to be by the week as most of the other primary sites are. I am currently working on this. As you know, technology can be challenging for me but I am trying to make this as easy as possible for you all. Please remember to check out Library, PE, and Music sites every week. The links are on the Week 6 page as well as on the school website.

I can't believe Friday is May! I hope to say hi from a distance to all of you on Wednesday when I bring your things out to your car. You will pull up, call the office and then I will bring the materials to you.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Blessings,

Ms. Elsner

Welcome to our gathering space for the next 6 weeks!

I will miss seeing you every weekday! I have put this picture on so we can "see each other" whenever we want to!

I will be posting assignments and due dates on Mondays and Wednesdays. Parents can email me with any questions.

Reading - Please continue to read at least 15 minutes every day. For one book per week students will need to fill out a sheet telling me the title of the book and details for beginning, middle and end. I am sending one home that you can copy and I will provide one weekly with the reading assignments as well.

Math - Students will be working on addition and subtraction facts up to 20, money and time to the hour and half hour. I have sent home their chapter packets on money and time and will assign pages on Monday and Wednesday. I am glad we were on these chapters as I think it will be fairly simple for grownups and older siblings to help with those.

We will also be reviewing place value and addition/subtraction with regrouping. I will be posting 10 facts every Wed to work on. We will be testing on these when we return to school. I will be posting worksheets and games for money, time, place value and regrouping.

Spelling/Sight Words - I will post the spelling words on Monday and sight words on Wednesday. I have sent home 5 different sheets to practice spelling words on. Spelling sentences will be due on Monday when the new words come out. Please practice sight words so we can test on these when we return to school.

Religion - I have sent home 5 chapter packets and will assign one each week. They cover the 3 days, Easter and First Communion.

Writing - I have sent their writing journals home and will be posting a writing prompt on Wednesdays for them to write about. They may also write stories on their own in them. Some students have post its with corrections on the story we were working on, they can correct those.

Science - We were just about to start our unit on Diverse Ecosystems. I am working on some habitat lessons and will be posting those with assignments as soon as they are ready.

Please feel free to email me with any questions telsner@stvs.us. I will be checking email every morning and afternoon. We will get through this together!
