The Year 6 leavers and their parents gathered together to celebrate their time at primary school. The children took time for reflection; to stop and think; to look back and remember, with gladness, the years they spent with us at St Vincent's Primary School. The children prayed for support as they looked forward to a new school, new friends and new beginnings.
Today the children reflected on the theme of holidays. When the weather gets hot - and we have been working hard for a long time - we look forward to a break. Sometimes, we say that we cannot wait to "get away from it all". That is good, because having a rest, or a holiday, is all part of God's plan for us. When God created the world, he worked hard for six days, and then he rested. We also need a rest - time to grow strong again, so that we can live and work and play properly.
Due to their incredible range of work around advocating for racial justice this academic year, our children were invited to present their songs on racial justice at a diocesan mass hosted at Westminster Cathedral. The children received a personal thanks from our Bishop who was stunned by the beauty of their words and singing.
The school joined together to mark the Feast of St Peter and Paul. Reflecting on two people who made significant contributions to the Church the children were encouraged to think about the fact that they had “two part” lives – the first part of their life was quite different from the second. Peter (he was called Simon at first) was a humble fisherman on the Sea of Galilee until Jesus called him Peter and chose him as the leader of His Church. Paul (he was called Saul at first) was a persecutor of Christians until Jesus chose him to be His Church’s greatest teacher. The power of God transformed both of these great men.
With the disruption to communion services due to covid, the Year 3 & 4 children took part in a mass to mark the Feast of Corpus Christi. In a day of celebration of the children's momentous receiving of the sacrament of communion, the children engaged with a wonderful class party and celebratory disco.
The school came together to mark the Feast of the Ascension. The Feast symbolised that while on earth, He was a servant. Now in heaven, He is the ruler and Lord of all. By entering heaven as the representative of mankind, He completed the work of our salvation and guarantees the eventual glorification of all who love Him.
Children from across the school began the Month of May with a service of devotion to Our Lady. The children considered their role in society - reflecting on the messages of the Mother of Jesus passed on by Fr Fergal. Year 5 provided some beautiful singing throughout.
As the children returned to school from our Easter break, we came together as a school community to celebrate the momentous events of Easter Sunday. The Easter Mass was dedicated to an individual who impacted many lives within our school community. Fr Fintan was a man of God who devoted his life to his faith - his teaching and message was celebrated in our Mass through prayer and song.
Our day of Action against Homelessness once again reminded our children of the need to use their voices for change. The children's light lunch, as well as additional donations from our community, raised £279 for The Passage Charity. Most importantly, our children flourished in their understanding of using their actions to make a change - we experienced a fraction of the hardships faced by homeless people on a daily basis but the children's desire to help as well as their messages of home and love showed that the future is bright with our children leading the way.
As a part of our day of action against homelessness, the RE Prefects and School Council representatives visited Acton Homeless Concern to interview volunteers about the work they do within our community. It provided a fascinating insight into the vital work of this charity and really inspired the children ahead of our day of action.
As a part of our schools commitment to RJED, and in combination with our desire to integrate music into all facets of our children's education, Year 5 and 6 have been working on creating songs themed on promoting equality within our society. A sample of their work can be found here. These will be shared within a Diocesan competition with the winning entry offered the chance to showcase their work at the Diocese RJED Mass in June.
As a part of our commitment to almsgiving during the season of Lent, the Mini Vinnie team presented their day of action against homelessness to the school during a Gospel assembly. We hope our children's desire to advocate for those in their community continues to flourish!
Together with schools across the Deanery, our Mini Vinnie Team marked the Year of St Joseph by attending a mass organised by St Joseph's Primary School.
The children prepared a cross to mark the occasion and had the following to say:
At St Vincent’s, we have worked incredibly hard on our oracy skills this year. As a part of this, we have looked at inspiring individuals who have used their voice as a means of change. Oscar Romero inspired our collage design which is shown here. In addition to working on our oracy skills, one of our big focuses has been on oracy for advocacy. The Year of St Joseph has been incredibly inspiring to us, St Joseph speaks a grand total of zero words in the Gospels and he only makes an appearance in two of the four. He is the model example of the fact that actions speak louder than words and his model leads us to continue to advocate for a more fair and just society.
Our RE Prefects and School Council visited Acton Homeless Concern to get an insight into what motivates and inspires the volunteers who work there. Ahead of our day of action against homelessness the children recorded their interviews to share with the school community.
The Catholic Children's Society visited the school in order to promote the work they complete within the community. The children were inspired by their work and it kicked off our Lent fundraising period.
The children started the Season of Lent with a reflective Ash Wednesday Mass celebrated by Fr Fergal. A special emphasis was put on praying for peace in this challenging time.
The Passage Charity visited the school following the decision by the Mini Vinnie Team to engage with a homeless charity. The children will be using the inspiring work of The Passage as a motivation behind their upcoming fundraiser.
Our children continued their focus on building their oracy skills to become advocates for change in our society by focusing on the concept of Racial Justice. Watch this space as our children have produced some inspiring work this week.
Our fantastic oracy lead - Mrs Grear - continued to inspire the children through her assemblies to get the children talking about the lessons brought to us by Jesus. The children really embraced the notion of all words having power!
Our amazing RE Prefects led the Gospel Assembly this week - a year of pilgrimage is an exciting time for our children. Pupil leadership and voice translating into action!
Years 4-6 joined together with the schools throughout the Deanery to celebrate the Feast of St Sebastian hosted by St Anselms. The children enjoyed the reflective start to the day and took away a wonderful message.
The Spring Term began with a wonderful celebration for the Feast of the Epiphany led by Fr Fergal. The children sought to celebrate the presentation of Jesus to our people through coming together as a school community - online and in person - to rejoice.
During the Advent fundraising day, Year 6 and Reception got together to create their representations of the Nativity Scene. Using the scenes and the characters the children retold the story together.
The children across the school took part in an Advent fundraiser organised by the Mini Vinnie team.
Children worked together with another year group to create a Nativity Scene. In all, the children raised over £1,000.
Fr Fergal joined the school community in order to say Mass to mark the beginning of Advent.
The children spent time in prayer reflecting on what they needed to do to prepare for the birth of Jesus and lit the first Advent candle.
KS1 and KS2 were treated to a fascinating presentation "Awesome Ealing Animals" and "Bugs, Birds, Bats and Biodiversity" which deepened their understanding of the wildlife in our local area. The children were asked to support the biodiversity project by really putting Laudato Si into action as a part of our Building the Kingdom theme Caring for God's Creation.
A mixture of our School Council, Mini Vinnie Team and RE Prefects attended a Tree Planting session as part of a project to rejuvenate North Acton Playing Fields.
The children enjoyed the experience and really had a hands on go at Caring for God's Creation.
Please see the introduction to the Mini Vinnie fundraiser which is outlined in their presentation. You can also find a video attached to their loom presentation here.
The generous donations from across the school community raised £789.14 for the Royal British Legion this year. A big thanks to all who supported so well.
Year 5 rounded off our week of Remembrance with a wonderful assembly.
The children marked the 11th November by gathering together to observe a moment of silence and prayer. In their classes, children took part in a range of acts of worship to mark the occasion.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
The Year 5 children took part in Prayers without Borders providing a Collective Worship watched live by the rest of the Diocese to begin our time of Remembrance,
The beginning of COP26 has inspired our children to take action in order to create change. The children have begun campaigning in support of Laudato Si encouraging our community to walk whenever possible and reduce our carbon footprint. The school will be involved in a number of events in the coming week so keep an eye on our Twitter page.
With the celebration of All Saints Day taking place on Sunday 31st October, Children marked the day in school with a range of Collective Worship. Year 6 met with Year 3 to make use of our wonderful communal prayer focus to consider the actions of all of the saints.

The week beginning the 18th October marked the first of our three weeks of exploring other world faiths. The children were immersed in a variety of teaching centred on the Jewish faith with each year group exploring specific aspects of the faith to ensure the children receive a broad coverage by the time they leave the school. To make the experience even more immersive, their learning was supported by visits from Ruth Jampel and Rabbi Zvi to help further broaden the children's knowledge.
The Mini Vinnies from Years 4 and 5, alongside the RE and Wellbeing Prefects in Year 6, accompanied by Mr Doak and Mrs Redmond to St Joseph's for trianing provided by Sister Judith. Our Religious Education Prefects have been working hard behind the scenes to create an introduction video to some aspects of our Catholic Life. Watch it here!
On Saturday 25th September, a number of our wonderful staff took part in the Charity Shine Walk. They walked long into the night - completing the 10 km walk in roughly three hours. Their huge efforts led to them smashing their initial target of £1,300 raising a total of £3,107 for this wonderful cause. Donations can still be made here.
Monday 27th September became a true celebration as the children marked St Vincent's Day with a range of activities. The day began with a whole school mass - celebrated by Fr Chris - as the children paused to reflect on the actions of our wonderful Patron. After Mass, we were blessed as the sun returned, freeing up the Hall for phase group discos (as well as treats provided by our wonderful PTA) and an outdoor lunch which the children across the school thoroughly enjoyed. In the afternoon, the festivities continued as - once again - we were able to avoid the showers and enjoy an ice cream provided by our incredible ice cream vendor Marcelo. A big thanks to everyone for their support and to you all for your generous donations, all of which will go to good causes!
