Greetings!

My name is Matt Schmitz and I am proud to serve as the Band Director for Sturgeon R-V Public Schools in Sturgeon, MO. I am a Columbia, MO native, and prior to teaching here I finished my Bachelor of Music Education - Instrumental degree at Missouri State University (Springfield) in 2006, taught high school and middle school band in Springfield Public Schools from 2007-2009, worked as a graduate assistant at the University of Missouri from 2009-2011, and again from 2014-2015, performed as showband musician with Carnival Cruise Lines from 2011-2013, worked as a highly-demanded music arranger for high school and university bands among the SEC, Big-XII, Mountain West, and Missouri Valley Conference since 2004, am currently finishing a Master of Music Education degree through MSU... and now my wife and I are happy to be back home in Boone County, MO with our two Welsh Corgis, Madison and Scout.

    • Here is where you can shop online for instruments, reeds, mouthpieces, books, and all supplies need to be successful within the Sturgeon Band Program.

    • We will be using this educational-friendly online video platform for any online assessment performances. It can link directly to your Sturgeon Google-based school account.

    • This is one of the most INCREDIBLY USEFUL Instrument (and voice) Tuner apps that I recommend all band students acquire if possible. While there is a purchase price attached (as with most tuners), other non-app/conventional tuners exist, including the "Snark" which can conveniently clip to any wind instrument's bell.
