Hello. My name is Ms. Alana Barragán-Scott and I am the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Science teacher. This is my third year teaching Science at Sturgeon R-V Middle School.
I would like to introduce myself to you. I have come to teach middle school science by a non-traditional route. I have undergraduate degrees in Biological Sciences and Psychology. I also have a Juris Doctorate degree and I practiced law for many years. I also taught law school part-time and lectured on legal topics around the state for many years. I loved and still love the law. But I come from a family of doctors, nurses, and teachers, and have always wanted to return to my science roots and teach young people.
I am married and my husband is a psychologist. We have three children. Our older son is a trained chef and baker, who owns his own baking business. Our younger son is completing a degree in music at the University of Missouri--St. Louis. And our daughter has graduated with honors from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, majoring in English and minoring in Gender and Sexuality Studies. I love to read, act, and sing; play the violin; go bicycling with my husband on the Missouri trails; hang out with my extended family; and root for the St. Louis Cardinals!
I look forward to getting to know you and your child. We will have a great year together in Science class. My goal is to inspire and support a deep appreciation for and understanding of this fascinating and important subject.
