You wonder around a bit before you finally find it, the unlocked module. Your sis must have unlocked it when you still had your original laptop. It's a shame, this thing has both a power outlet and an ethernet port. You chuckle, "ethernet". What is it, 1997. Of course, that is a gross underestimate on when ethernet was used. Unlike you, I have some other information outside the grasp of a 14-year-old. Such is the case of the way you even access the internet.
In 1973, there was of course, the invention of Ethernet cables, which directly connected information from place to place, and the technology was first commercialized in the early 80's. Later on in the 80's, dial-up modem was invented, and later commercialized in 1992. Now, Wi-Fi was invented in 1997, so your first notion of 1997 being a time way after ethernet is a bit apt. However, while we still use Wi-Fi today, we also still use Ether Net quite a lot. If you'd probably look at your own Wi-Fi router, it probably has an ethernet port feeding into it, and/or feeding out of it. Meanwhile, the second child of the internet access options, Dial-up modem, was basically phased out before the 2000's were over.
Now, that is real-life earth and not coocoo bananas earth, but assume that the designated year, 2x2x is a gag. If you need me to explain the gag, I will. So, in Undertale, the common understanding is that it occurs in 201X with a heavy implication on it being 2015. However, this isn't even the correct century. 201X is the year in which Chara fell down from above and became a family member of the Dreemurrs. Then, a bunch of time actually occurs between that time and the time of the fall of Frisk. There is an unknown amount of time between Chara falling and Frisk falling, and it probably is a long time, seeming that the story of Chara has become a legend in the youth. We also know that the story probably took place in the teens decade because several characters have 97 as a year in their online handles. This story, Starstuck, takes place 6 years after Undertale, so that's why the decades place is 20. The ones place is an x because in old videogames, they have that place be an x as a non-ironic way to be cool, so in Undertale, and in here, it is an ironic joke about that. And the century is just a continuation of that.
