You enter the room.  The five elves stare at you in shock.  Not only did you not expect to see them here, but they also didn't expect to see you either.  Perhaps they're trapped as well.  Maybe this is them trying to pass time while they wait for someone to collapse and then eat them.  Maybe not, who knows.
