This door means a lot.  It is one of, if not, the most important door for the overall plot of Starstuck.  Just as the book was very important to the rest of the story, this door too shall act in a way that will carry out the plot way into the future.  Although this door has a much, much easier timeline to it.  In that, it exists in one of two states, opened, or closed.  When it's closed, it exists here, in this space outside time.  When it is opened, it can be found anywhere in the multiverse.  This means, that the man behind it, can find himself, anywhere you look...
