AI has a future

Is AI Really So Bad?

AI (or Artificial Intelligence) is a technology that displays intelligence similar to human intelligence but is run by machines. Put simply, it is the technology that makes machines smart. AI can be used to solve problems, use advanced math in simulations, exploit or find glitches or bugs in computer programs, among other everyday things (e.g. unlocking your phone, finding diseases in humans, and communicating with you through devices such as voice assistants). Many people are concerned, however, worried about a point called the singularity, or the time in the future where computer intelligence becomes smarter than human intelligence. People fear that technology will ascend human intelligence and cause human extinction. Nevertheless, Artificial Intelligence has the boundless potential for the efficiency of human society and ordinary tasks.

In the modern era, Artificial Intelligence provides more security, verification, and control in today’s economy (e.g transactions), society (e.g. social media), and cryptography (online security). In the future, a computer may exceed a human at a cognitive task. and thus may possibly help “eradicate war, disease, and poverty.” - Future of Life Institute: Home. It can help us with our run-of-the-mill tasks, being healthy, and improving our social and mental health. The weak AI we have today still can help us with remembering things, setting alarms, texting, calling someone, emailing anyone, and help us fix code like Grammarly, which helps correct mistakes that people type. This type of AI is widely used all worldwide, even more in places like Japan, China, and South Korea. This type of AI is commonly not thought about day-to-day, but still is very useful.

In Addition, Artificial Intelligence provides an interesting insight into the future and how we may handle it, but at a limit. AI helps lessen tedious tasks, and through simulations, may figure out the best way how to handle something, even if the methods are unethical. For example, if you were to tell an AI system to find you the fastest way to the coffee shop in a simulation, it would try to calculate methods to get there in the quickest time, but it wouldn’t take into account speed limits, moral laws, and obstacles in the way. When humans set criteria, AI becomes eminently advantageous and, using this example, then find the best way to travel to the aforementioned coffee shop (In which, the aroma would be bliss by the way). Anyways, to recap, Artificial Intelligence provides a myriad of strategies on how to handle things, but at certain criteria.

Evidently, AI is going to be one of the big factors that contribute to the survival of humankind. It provides many benefits and different outcomes of the future through simulations, that better our living and make it easier. From voice assistants to Grammarly, AI is a great place to begin to change our lives. Undoubtedly, we should start to look into the help that it provides and who knows, it could be regrettable, but the pros outweigh the cons.
