How have you grown as an artist in Art 2? Please give three examples of how you have learned new skills or improved.
Throughout Art 2 I have learned different techniques special to their own mediums. Before this art class- even with my knowledge from Art 1, there were some things that I was not knowledgeable on. The most notable of the techniques related to using ink wash to create more depth and coverage on a piece. I enjoyed using it as it felt almost like using watercolor. The other two techniques that I was able to learn more about were relating to water color. I struggle with watercolor because I am not used to the free flowing nature of it, opting for mediums that I have more control over. However, I was able to figure out how to control the paint by limiting areas it could spread by doing wet on wet technique. It almost creates a sort of barrier where you are applying the paint. The other technique to go with it is the bleeding technique which consists of just letting the paint bleed out on the area you have wet. It is similar to wet on wet but you don't control or spread it by yourself with a brush.

What project in Art 2 was your favorite? Explain why using clear and specific examples.
My favorite project had to be my colored pencil final. It was something new to me. At the time I hadn't had a history of using much color in my art with colored pencils, and the project allowed me to explore techniques and my own style with them. Before the unit I had a hatred for colored pencils, not liking how hard they were to blend and how easily they broke. Though, overtime I learned how to use them (better quality pencils too) and found love for them.
What were the biggest challenges you encountered in Art 2? How did you deal with them? Give specific examples.
Some of the biggest challenges I faced in Art 2 mostly dealt with my own sense of perfectionism. I wanted all of my pieces to be perfect, to turn out just how I imagined them. Of course, some of them didn't- but I was able to eventually accept it because art is something that expresses things, and it doesn't always have to be perfect. Plus, people have different perceptions of perfect. If it wasn't perfect to my standards then maybe it was to someone else. In my acrylic final I struggled a lot trying to nail down the lighting I was going for, and it frustrated me. I wanted it to look good but every time I tried to fix it, it seemed to get worse. Eventually I stopped messing with it and let it "marinate" on the canvas for a while thinking that maybe if I left it alone I would come to terms with it just wasn't going to look how I wanted, and I did.
What is the best artwork you made in Art 2? What did you consider when you made this choice?
In my (humble) opinion, my water color is my best piece. I feel as if I was able to harness and use the techniques related to water color the best out of any other mediums. Compared to my other pieces this one has a more skilled interpretation of lighting and shadows. It also seems to have a clear foreground, midground, and background- creating depth in the piece. Also, of all of my pieces this one seems to have something that everyone can understand- the life beneath the water and all of the homes that nature provides. I think the ocean is a wonderful and beautiful place, and I wanted this piece to represent my feelings towards it.
What did you enjoy about Art 2? What could have made it even better?
I enjoyed everything about Art 2; the units, projects, and teaching style. I was able to gain a lot of new information that would help my journey as an artist whether it is from my art style developing or a better understanding of different mediums and what could suit my visions the best. The only thing I missed or wished we had in Art 2 was a linocut unit. I enjoyed it a lot during Art 1 and wish I could have done it again in order to compare my abilities throughout the first and second semester. Besides that, my wants for the class were fulfilled and there isn't much that could be done to make it any better (as it was already amazing).
