Happy October, and welcome back to Fashionista of the Month! This month’s fashionista is one of our beloved NHS seniors. She’s super cool, she’s super fashionable, she’s Linnea Stark!

What are your favorite silhouettes? Color palettes?
I literally wear tank tops and baggy jeans year round and that’s definitely the silhouette I prefer most. In summer, though, I do like to pull out my y2k style shorts and long skirts, which are fun too.
Although I love good neutrals, I have a tendency to gravitate towards bright shirts. I’ve been loving blues and pinks recently. I just think they’re a lot of fun.
I’ve been loving blues and pinks as well. As Halloween approaches, are there any fashionable Halloween costumes you’d like to see?
I absolutely love Halloween, and this year the plan is to be Brie Larson’s Envy Adams from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. I don’t know if there’s any costumes I’d really like to see, but I just think it’s so cool that it’s the one day a year you can be whoever you want free of judgment.
I agree, Halloween is so fun! I’m excited to see your costume. Now that it’s your senior year, how do you think your style has evolved throughout high school?
It’s evolved so much I don’t even know where to start. I mean, freshman year, who knows what I was doing. It was really bad. But I started to feel the most comfortable in what I was wearing when I just started to thrift everything. My clothes became more of an extension of myself and my interests rather than something to hide in.
The boxer trend: yes or no?
I do think it’s one of those things where we are going to look back on with regret and confusion, but who cares. I have yet to participate, but I think it’s cute.
I’ve been meaning to participate for a while but I haven’t found the right pair or right occasion. Who is your favorite fashionista/fashion inspo?
A '90s/2000s inspired fit
I take so much fashion inspiration from the ‘90s and early 2000s. Such cool time for fashion, and the ‘90s created so much great music as well. There’s also this girl on TikTok, her @ is onlygrlnthewrld, and I want her entire wardrobe. I think she’s so cool.
Where do you like to shop?
Linnea in a thrift store
I’m always at Savers or Goodwill. It takes patience, but you can create such a personalized and cool wardrobe for so cheap. A cute curated spot, though, is Vivant Vintage in Allston.
I haven’t been thrifting in a while. Maybe I’ll check it out! What is an underrated accessory?
Linnea with a purse
I don’t really know if I can think of anything that’s underrated, but I literally feel naked without my jewelry. There’s been too many times I’ve been late to school because I forgot to put my rings and bracelets and necklace on. I also love purses. My collection is getting a little out of hand, but vintage purses bring me so much joy.
I do think purses are underrated. Not a lot of people use them anymore. Do you think it’s ok to mix metals or are you strictly silver or gold?
I’ve been super into mixing metals. It’s mostly because I’m indecisive and just love both silver and gold, but there are just so many more opportunities to find cool pieces when you’re open to both!
I mainly wear gold jewelry, but I have one ring that I wear every single day that’s silver, so I guess I mix metals too! Low rise or high rise?
Linnea in low rise jeans
Low rise for me 100%. What I love about baggy jeans is that just depending on how you wear them you kind of get to choose how low or high you want them to be, which just makes them all the more flattering.
I used to be high rise all the way, but now I actually think low rise is more flattering on me. Favorite shoes?
I’ve been dedicated to my Reebok Vintage Club C sneakers for years. You will rarely see me without them. However, I’ve recently thrifted some flats and other vintage shoes that I’m obsessed with.
Do you have any advice for the juniors?
It’s going to be stressful, but find a balance. It can kind of feel like you have to pick between a social life or school, but you really don’t. It’s so much better if you don’t neglect one or the other.
I agree 100%. What are you looking forward to this fall?
I have a few concerts coming up that I’m really looking forward to. I just saw The Jesus and the Mary Chain and The Psychedelic Furs which were both awesome, but I’m seeing Massive Attack and Thee Sacred Souls in the next few weeks!
That sounds so fun! Dream pet?
I love my dogs more than anything, but my whole family is kind of anti-cat for whatever reason, but I want one so bad.
I could totally see you with a cat. Thank you so much for an amazing interview, Linnea! NHS, stay tuned for more Fashionistas this school year, and DM @hilltoppernhs on Instagram to nominate yourself or a friend as a future fashionista!
