The rise of kawaii culture in western and European communities has inspired many artist, online communities, physical store, and fashion designers.
Many example of these are the rise of Hello Kitty, Pokémon, and Studio Ghibli in the 90s. The rise of Harajuku Fashion around 90s and 2000s, with icon such as Katy Perry, Gwen Stefani, and Niki Minaj. Movies such as the iconic Tokyo Drift and 2 Fast 2 Furious which had a great amount of influence toward audiences that weren't too exposed to Kawaii culture, by character such as Suki specifically and the background characters really. Hello Kitty becoming a huge phenomime in the 2000s and modern day. As well as Pokémon in the 90s and modern day. With both characters making more than 5 billion dollars in revenue every year.

During the late 2000s and early 2010s Katy Perry had a biggest break through with albums such as "One of the Boys" and "Teenage Dream". Her Teenage Dream era was predominantly where she wore the most inspired kawaii fashion. Which made her known for colorful candy like outfits.

Where she is this character that depicts how a Harajuku girl acts as well as creating her own spin on Harajuku fashion. She has made multiple song, performed multiple times, and has done multiple interviews under this alter ego. She is one of the most icon celebrities that has worn or shown appreciation towards J-fashion.
