What About the War?

By: JC Garcia

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has been going on seemingly forever to the point most of us have stopped paying attention, but recent escalating actions cause new fears about what could come next

As with everything in the world there is always going to be a trend happening with the widespread of news either events, items, or people trends always tend to fade away as time passes by. We tend to lose interest once the “newness” of something goes away - just like majority of people lost interest of Covid after social media stopped making it a big deal of it.

The Ukraine war was a major trending subject that was all over the news during 2022 was the Ukraine war as news started to rise of the tension of Russia planning an attack on Ukraine. On February 24 2022 Russia invaded Ukraine and took over the city of Kerson giving a victory for the Russians during the first few months into the war. This war has been going on since February 2014 but most weren't interested in it as not much tension of an actual invasion of a major  Ukrainian city was taken over. As trends fade away many have forgotten of this war that is going on on the other side of the world. The number of shots taken while we are here sitting in our chairs, the number of civilians killed. Currently, about 124,500 to 131,000 casualties have been confirmed and most likely more to come.

But what's going on in the war now? Well, many rebellions have been occurring in Ukraine and Russia with the bombing of unidentified squads which both sides of Russia or Ukraine haven't been held accountable. The technique that these mysterious rebels are using to cause damage to buildings around the warzone are drones. Bombs are attached to these drones to create swarms of bomb drones, which is very effective as one bomb drone could destroy a tank. Ukraine, not having the most advanced military, relies on these drone attacks.

On an early morning on Wednesday, May 3 a bomb drone was spotted on camera to be directly ignited on Putin's office location in the Kremlin. As shown in the images a bomb directly hit the top of the building where Putin was believed to be. The bomb did little damage to the building but it did start a panic at the thought of this being associated with Putin was the original plan of the bomb. Russians started to blame Ukraine for the terrorist action on the attempt of assassination, but Ukrainian government claim that they had nothing to do with the bombing. As you can imagine tensions are high on both sides. According to NBC NEWS Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky claims that his country had nothing to do with this assassination attempt. At a conference in the Finnish Capital he declared “We are not attacking Putin or Moscow …We are fighting on our own territory, defending our villages and cities,” he said. “We do not have enough weapons even for this. That is why we do not use them elsewhere. We have a deficit. We cannot use everything and everywhere.”

Some believe that this assassination could've been from unknown group rebellion either trying to cause a bigger war or another objective. If these drone attacks keep occuring, this could mean a bigger conflict between Russia and Ukriane or more involment from other nations getting invloved and perhaps even another World War. It’s a situation that is definitely worth paying attention to, even if you aren’t seeing it trending as much as you once did.
