After a great run as Neuwirth's 2022-2023 Executive President, Daisy Carrasco has set high expectations for her successor as Neuwirth’s next president. She has planned amazing events - even with a limited budget - and shown great leadership for the school. Some even say she's one of the best presidents that Neuwirth has ever had.
In the spirit of democracy, as is true with every president that has ever served, there is a limited term for being in power. Daisy Carrasco is leaving the office as she is graduating this year (congratulations btw 🙂). With the empty spot of Neuwirth president next year now open, new candidates are racing to take over their seat in the big office chair. To sit on that throne, of course, they will need the votes of their peers. Charlie Mejia and JC Garcia are the two rising seniors vying for the top spot. These two candidates show so much potential for being president but only one can hold the position of Executive President of Neuwirth. It is also important to remember that the Executive President of Neuwirth can be voted by all grades. Elections will take place in Advisory, May 25-26
Charlie Mejia:
JC Garcia:
Charlie Mejia is a strong candidate being well-known around the community as his routine around the school consists of “ picking up trash during lunch” something that I, a student of Neuwirth, have not seen another student do. He sees himself as being “here to help everyone and help make a change.” Charlie has some experience in the field of planning events. “[I have] hosted events, had some fundraisers and created posters for events.” Charlie also has past experience with being part of the Neuwirth leaders as he states, “I am a part of ASB and National Honors Society”
When asked about his plans if he is elected president, Charlie states that he wants to listen to what students say and keep up school spirit with events. Charlie says that “I would try and make more and new events that hopefully people could enjoy and participate in.” He states that he wants to “make a difference” and “make the school a more fun place while still following the rules.
Charlie will do his best to help around the school to put effort into making clear examples of what a leader should be and take these opportunities to show his grit and strength, he can become a powerful leader for the school knowing it’s ins and outs as he already has a few years of ASB experience and will try to make change. Charlie is really focused on trying to make sure that people enjoy their high school experience and says that he will listen to all the feedback the students give him as he tries to make Neuwirth the best it can be.
JC is a well known scholar through the lower grade levels as he participates in sports and known to be a nice person to a lot of people. JC is very dedicated to his craft to put out the best he can for himself and others. Over his years in Neuwirth, JC has been making bonds with people in his grade level and the other two lower grade levels making many friends. When asked the question what makes him better than his competitors JC responded modestly whilst challenging Charlie saying, “To be honest nothing really makes me better than my competitor,we both have different ideas on what we want to change it just depends on who keeps their promise.”
JC’s plans for if he is Executive President are not huge as of now but he has ideas for the little things, for quality of life, “I do not have any types of events in mind but I do have changes for certain things such as changing the Boxer Bodega. For what I've seen no one spends their boxer points so whats a way we can change that… But with the Boxer Bodega ,my idea is to switch it up. Instead of Boxer points you'll be able to pay items with real money… I'll work with my team to make the prices reasonable for the items sold… Boxer points will be used for exclusive events like boxer bash.” Jc did go into a bit more detail of switching the Boxer Bodega to lunch with me so it is more accessible for the students of Neuwirth and that’ll he’ll schedule it so it doesn’t go crazy when it opens and there is a huge crowd or a lot of students showing us his resilience with taking on more work and his dedication if he becomes the Executive President.
