*Update: The volleyball team played in a hard-fought playoff game on Tuesday, October 25, which ultimately ended in a loss and the end of the season.
On Wednesday October 12, 2022 at the Middle School #12 gym, our girls volleyball team destroyed the opponents, 3 to 0, winning all the sets and showing some boxer pride. With this game and the next, which they ended up winning once again, they made it to the playoffs!
The gym was packed with people ready to see their team win, tensions were through the roof. Both sides of the teams wanted it but we just wanted it more! Our girls played their hearts out that night, the chemistry among the girls was something that is usually only seen at the professional level. They were using all of their three touches but at times the players would study the play and they would send the ball over to score some easy points. The crowd would go wild with each point Mia, our team’s top player, would make.
During the season the team had many highlights and it shows how much the team has grown. When asked about some of her favorite highlights, Ms. Ochoa, one of the two coaches, eagerly shared that the “Last two games we have seen a huge improvement in how the girls play and communication skills. We had a streak of like four wins…and then we lost one game, but then we won the last game which shows how much the girls are improving, a huge highlight for us.”
America Esiquio, the former team captain, also shared some of her highlights this season. She was proud of how much they had all accomplished and she announced that “the main highlight of this season is that each of us were able to grow, even though it was a little bit and a lot. I feel like we were definitely able to see a lot of empowerment through each player this season which honestly was really amazing.”
With all the hard work that our team put forth, we should take the time to congratulate our volleyball team for such a great season.
