HISTORY

/ˌnæɡəˈsɑːki/ /ˌnɑːɡəˈsɑːki/ a city and port in south-west Japan. It was, after Hiroshima, the second city to be destroyed by an atomic bomb at the end of the Second World War. The bomb was dropped from a US plane on 9 August 1945, killing about 75 000 people immediately and another 75 000 who died later.

Near the end of World War II, the American atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki made Nagasaki the second city in the world to experience a nuclear attack. The city was rebuilt.
