The Elephant

Mural reads: Physics C: Mechanics; Section II; Time - 45 minutes; 3 questions; Directions: answer all three questions. The suggested time is about 15 minutes for answering each of the questions, which are worth 15 points each. The parts within a question may not have equal weight. Show all work in the spaces provided after each part. Mech 1. An object of mass m is released from rest at a height h on a curved, frictionless ramp. At the foot of the ramp is a spring of force constant X. The object slides down the ramp and into the spring, compressing it a distance x before coming to rest. Express all answers in terms of m, h, X. and fundamental constants. (a) Find X. It's here. (b). Does the object continue to move after it comes to rest? If yes, how high will it go up the slope until it comes to rest? No, the elephant stops it. Go on to the next page.

This mural is a reference to taking the AP Physics Exam. It is funny because the student has immensely simplified the problem as they have forgotten how to actually solve it, choosing instead to 'find' x on the paper and stop the ball that has a difficult equation with an elephant.
