The Electron

Jared Elton, Chase Loeb (2018-19)

The subatomic particle the electron is found moving quickly around the nucleus of an atom. Its charge (which is about equal to the charge of a proton) is shown. Its mass (also shown) is irrelevant in comparison to the much larger protons and neutrons of an atom. According to Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, it is impossible to know both an electron's position and momentum (according to the formula shown). As we know the electron's momentum is 'heading out west,' its whereabouts must be uncertain. This mural is also funny because it resembles a wanted poster for an outlaw in the wild west, and the reward is twenty valuable extra credit points!
