Drive the Bus

Allison Laufenberg, Melissa Cornwell, Christina Nguyen (2017-18)

This mural is a reference to acid-base equilibrium. The SA (strong acid) is 'driving the bus' because it is the most important contributor of acidic H+ ions. Water is neutral, but does dissociate into equal small amounts of both H+ and OH-; WB (weak base) produces some OH-, but it is much less than the SA's H+; A- is a conjugate base; H+ is acidic hydrogen produced from the dissociation of an acid into (usually) equal quantities of H+ and A-. The man in the last seat of the bus is Mr. Stoffregen, the AP Chemistry teacher. The ions surrounding the bus are F- (weak conjugate base), Cl- (conjugate base with no basic character), Li+ (conjugate acid with no acidic character), K+ (conjugate acid with no acidic character), OH- (basic), and H+ (acidic),
