Hey Huskies!
We’re thrilled to announce the revival of the Garnet with our Back-to-School issue!
Last year was our first year at Humberside without a school newspaper. We had always seen the Garnet as a place for all the clubs of Humberside to come together, so its absence made the pandemic feel even more isolating. In bringing the Garnet back, it's our goal that it serves as a source of connection for the Humberside community.
Most importantly, we want the Garnet to be yours. The newspaper should provide a platform to voice your thoughts and opinions. We need poems, comics, doodles, stories, photography, and articles; there’s room for anything you can put down on paper.
For instance, in this issue, we’re excited to feature articles such as an introduction to our new Principal, tips for students, and the best places to eat near Humberside.
Our hope is to publish four more issues over the course of the year, but it all depends on how much material we get from you.
The Garnet is always welcoming new members, so make sure to follow our Instagram @hci_garnet and listen to the morning announcements for our upcoming meeting times.
If you aren’t ready to share your creativity with the world, the Garnet team would still love to have you at our meetings. This is a great way to get involved at Humberside while hanging out with new friends.
As you can tell, the Garnet will be published exclusively online to avoid the spread of COVID. So, the bad news is: you won’t get to smell freshly photocopied pages, but the good news is: we won’t be contributing to deforestation and we’ll be able to get each issue out to you more quickly.
A special shout-out to our team who worked hard over the summer to get this issue published early and our staff advisor, Ms. Dallas, for her dedication to the Garnet.
We look forward to a great year of creativity,
Percy MacKinlay on behalf of the Editors-in-Chief (Emma Shapiro, Nina Do, and Percy MacKinlay)
