Why are we learning from home?

We are learning from home because of COVID-19. This is an infectious virus that has made its way around the world. Because of the virus, about 1.17 million people have lost their lives (according to Google on 10/28/20). Going into lockdown was essential to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We are doing School From Home to make sure that the spread of this virus is contained. Staying socially distant and washing hands are both very important to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Viruses + Other Terminology

Virus - A tiny nonliving particle that enters and then reproduces inside a living cell

Parasite - an organism that lives on or in a host and causes harm

Vaccine - is a substance that introduced in the body to help produce anitbodies that destroy specific viruses

Host - an organism that provides a source of energy for a virus or another organism

This Data Table and Bar Graph represent the amount of COViD-19 cases in the neighborhoods of my group mates and me. This data was current on October 1, 2020

Demographics

A demographic is what the population is made up of. For example, the population profile of my zip code is 52.50% male and 47.50% female. We did reasearch on the demographics of race or ethnicity, gender, and income level.

Prevalence

The proportion of people affected by the virus in a certain community.

Incidence

The rate of the virus.

Communitie of color have been disproportionately affected by this pandemic. Looking at certain data from this virus, we can find out how and why this is happening. For example, reasons like underlying health conditions, and less access to health care.

How Can YOU Make A Difference?

You can do basic things like wearing a mask and social distancing when going out to prevent the spread of COViD-19. Most people have also been quarentining to make sure that they don't catch or spread the virus. Washing hands can also make a big difference.
