Branches of Government

The main two branches in our government are the Store Manager and their Store Committee. The Store Manager rules with the Store Committee as his advisors, who help him vote on important decisions such as the dates of the next big sales and expansion of aisles, or even the creation of new fragrances. The Committee members are voted on by the residents and customers of the Clearance Section at Macy’s (more information on elections and party systems later). The members are not chosen by the Store Manager, and there are 15 seats in total (1 per aisle). If a Store Manager were to make a decree and the Committee had a majority vote of no, the decree would not be passed. The Committee has ⅔ worth power and the Store Manager has the remaining ⅓ power. All government officials have 3-year terms with a limit of 3 terms, no matter what position they hold.

Elections and Political Parties

Anyone wishing to run for a government position is allowed to attempt, but who wins is determined by votes made by the residents and customers of the Clearance Section at Macy’s. The party system consists of many small parties that win seats in the government based on the percentage of votes they get, for example, a 40% vote is 4 seats for that party, meaning it is not “winner takes all''. This allows more voices to be heard in the government and keeps from having one or two dominant parties, resulting in a variation of political decisions as favor ebbs and flows between parties.

Enforcement of Laws

All citizens and customers in the Clearance Section must follow the rules of Macy’s Official Employee Code of Conduct. Violations of the Code of Conduct results in being kicked out of the store because the Code of Conduct is considered law, and is enforced by the mall cops stationed throughout the store.

A few examples of laws within the Macy’s Code of Conduct are:

• The citizens of the Clearance Section may, under no circumstances, wear white after Labor Day.

• Karen's are to be led out by the Department of Security in a timely fashion.

• There is a zero-tolerance policy for harassment of any kind.

Societal Structure

In our society, everyone is given the same amount of housing space, and money based on their job. It's not very common for people to be excessively wealthier than others, and most jobs pay around the same amount. Individuals have the ability to buy whatever they please with their money, so there isn't much of a division between wealth classes, and personality and individuality is maintained due to being able to use money as one pleases.
