The latest Marvel movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is a long time coming. We can see from the trailer that the exciting new installment intends to bring together the newer TV shows such as WandaVision, Loki, and What If?, bringing in events and characters from each show. So what's to expect? Who might show up in an unexpected twist? And how will it relate to the other most recent Marvel movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home? Well, let's dive into the world of Marvel and find out what is happening in the Multiverse.
(SPOILERS AHEAD!!!)
Multiverse of Madness takes place directly after Spider-Man: No Way Home and appears to follow Doctor Strange, the Sorcerer Supreme. But who else is said to show up? In the trailer, Wanda Maximof (aka the Scarlet Witch) is shown to be living on a farm and presumably trying to find her sons, whom she lost in WandaVision. In the Marvel Comics, Wanda was always deeply rooted in the Multiverse, so it seems that she will play a big role in this movie. But many fans are speculating that this may be the beginning of her villain arc in the MCU.
Another character that is briefly shown in the trailers is America Chaves. This will be her debut on the big screen, so many fans are excited to see what she is all about. Her main power in the comics is her ability to open up “star portals” that allows her to jump between universes in the Multiverse. It is hard to say when and where America will come into play, but it is pretty safe to assume that she will be using her powers to help fix the Multiverse that was broken in Loki.
In the show Loki , the Conqueror/He Who Remains, was introduced as the being that kept the multiverse as a singular universe called “the sacred timeline." But in the last episode of Loki, Sylvie killed him, allowing the timeline to split into many different realities. It seems this movie will center around trying to fix what Loki and Sylvie broke, but at what cost?
No matter how much we theorize, it is almost impossible to guess exactly what Marvel is going to throw at us on May 6th. But until then, we can guess at what truly lies within the Multiverse of Madness.
