The movie Avatar was created in 2009, and production on the sequel has been going on since 2017 and is finally said to be coming out this December. Production on Avatar: The Way of Water has been delayed multiple times due to things like not having the right technology, but despite all of the delays, the 2nd movie in the series should really be a sight. Recently, a trailer of the movie leaked before it was released to the public. The official release date is May 6th, which is also when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to release in theaters.
A Quick Recap of Avatar
The first movie mainly focuses on the main character, Jake Sully, who is human and Neytiri, a person native to the alien planet Pandora called the Na’vi. Humans had set up a base on Pandora to research more about alien life and also obtain a rare element called unobtanium. For the humans to learn more about the Na’vi, they have to put their consciousnesses into an Avatar that looks like a native Na’vi so they can fit in and learn more.
Throughout the movie, Jake realizes that what the humans were doing to the planet and the tribes was wrong, so he tries to help both sides, but ends up helping the Na’vi in the final conflict. Peace was eventually established at the end of the first movie. So where will the 2nd movie go from here?
What to Expect in Avatar: The Way of Water
From what people have deduced from the leaked trailer, the second movie will focus mostly on Jake Sully’s family and the oceans and seas of Pandora. The new movie will include a lot of new things, like underwater alien creatures, different tribes, new characters, and more amazing scenery. Screen Rant states, “the trailer hints a major battle will take place in the sea, with the two Na’vi tribes clashing violently.” This, along with other conflicts that are sure to occur between humans, tribes, and Jake’s family, are among the many new things being introduced in the movie. The trailer and images from shooting showcase underwater shots require the newest technology to get around the light refraction caused by the water.
So far, a lot of work has been put into this movie, and expectations are high. The first Avatar movie was record-breaking in the box office and had a lot of Oscar nominations. People will be expecting even better CGI, great acting, and a new and fresh story. Avatar: The Way of Water is set to be released on December 16 of this year.
