The 8th Grade Social is said to happen this Friday, May 13th, and will start from five in the afternoon and go until seven, later in the evening. The event boasts both free entry and food for those who plan to attend, and they advise students to dress up somewhat.
Abby Kunkel, a member of the student council at the Junior High, states that the purpose of this dance is to act as a sort of “send-off” to those students “that didn’t get a 6th-grade send-off due to Covid-19.” She mentioned that because the PTA was aware that the 6th graders, now 8th graders, didn’t have something to celebrate their “graduation from elementary school,” they ought to have one this year and planned this dance.
Many 8th graders had varying thoughts about this seemingly sudden event. Vella Batdorf, an Eighth Grade student who plans to attend this junction, states, “I’m excited; I think it’ll be fun, and I think everyone should have this, like, awkward teen experience at least once.” On the other hand, Tiffany Ku, another Eighth-grader, had some very different thoughts about the whole idea of a dance at the junior high in the first place. She said, ”So basically, the junior high dance is really dumb and immature. I feel like it’s just Junior High - go to the Highschool ones that actually matter.”
Overall, thoughts on the event are still varied, but for those that plan to go, it seems to be a pretty fun way to end off a year filled with madness, excitement, and maybe even some education.
