Why We Need Gun Control

In recent years, gun control has become a heated topic of debate across the country. Several school shootings like that of Sandy Hook and Maryland have highlighted the necessity of gun control in this country and yet little to no action has been taken.
People opposed to the idea say any law concerning gun control will take away their right to the second amendment. However, the purpose of this addition to the Bill of Rights was to make sure that if the government transitioned themselves into a tyrannical one, the people would have the chance to form their own militia. On a more current scale, this amendment doesn't hold any logic as a militia would never have a chance to fight against today's United States military, which has a budget of about $700 billion.
Not only that, but the image of guns the founding fathers had, were nowhere close to what they have become. Today, there are guns that can kill over 20 people in a matter of seconds. If you think back to 250 years ago, during the origin of the second amendment, soldiers possessed muskets that, if they were trained experts, could only fire about four times a minute.
In conclusion, gun control is an action that should be implemented in the United States as previous laws that claimed gun control was unconstitutional have no relevance in the modern United States.
