The District Band concert is a much awaited event amongst band students in grades 6-12. The event allows for students in the district to hear the music of the other participating bands. The event also allows for the two eighth grade bands to combine and play together after playing separately for the entire school year. Evidently, this event is highly anticipated among some students, while others are highly unenthused.
On April 25, current eighth graders were able to play at the event in a more conventional environment that was present at the concert a few years prior. Regardless of this, their opinions on the concert were not all positive. For example, one anonymous student felt unsatisfied about the concert, “The only fun part of listening to our band was the comments I made on the other songs”. Another anonymous participant agreed with the previous student, “It felt a lot different than playing in the band room. I feel like some songs went better than the others”. Another student also stated that the concert was, “long and boring,” and that it “sucked”. Unlike the previous students, one particular student felt surprised with the concert’s outcome, “I didn’t expect us to sound the way we did. I’m pretty satisfied with the outcome. It could have gone better, but we didn’t sound as bad as we thought”.
In conclusion, the concert has led many students to have mixed feelings about their performance, however, it can be said that the District Band concert was a night to remember.
