“I was so terrified of the spider so I had to kill it.” Alyna Arndt, an eighth grader, saw the spider in Mrs. Ward’s room. This incident happened on Thursday April 12, 2022, around the second and third passing period. The spider dangled in the air for a bit, then was killed. This incident left many people wondering what spider it was, and if there were more. The most common spiders in Iowa are the black and yellow garden spider, common house spider, fisher spider, woodlouse hunting spider, grass spider, yellow sac spider, wolf spider, funnel weaver spider, cellar spider, and orb weaver spider. (Preferred Pest Control). The spider dangling from the ceiling was most likely harmless, since there are only two poisonous spiders in Iowa. The two poisonous spiders in Iowa are the black widow, which is very rare, and the brown recluse, which is common. (Preferred Pest Control). The big question after this is where did the spider come from? It most likely came from the ceiling, since spiders like dark cool places and the ceiling checks all the boxes. In closing the spider in Mrs. Ward’s room was a very exciting experience.
