Fahrenheit 451. The book that most students read in ELA within the eighth grade year. In this book review, I will look at the positives and the negatives of Fahrenheit 451. I will look at three aspects of the book. The first is readability. The second is excitement. The last is morals. Through these three aspects, I will decide if Fahrenheit 451 is a good book to read.
First, we will talk about how easy Fahrenheit 451 is to read. After reading it once, and reviewing the language, I have decided that there are a lot of hard words and long sentences inside of it. Many parts of the book are hard to understand, but there are also many sentences that make you think critically. For example, Bradburry states, “With his symbolic helmet numbered 451 on his stolid head, and his eyes all orange flame with the thought of what came next, he flicked the igniter and the house jumped up in a gorging fire that burned the evening sky red and yellow and black”. This sentence may be hard to read, but if you understand it, it makes sense. Overall, because of these things, I rate the readability of this book a 4/10.
Next, we will talk about how exciting Fahrenheit 451 is to read. There are many events that take place in the book, but without giving spoilers, most of the book is description and the author going into detail about many different things. There are not too many fast paced things happening throughout the book, but the few fast paced events are fun to read and exciting. The plot also contributes to this score, as the more twists and turns the plot, the more exciting it is to read. In Fahrenheit 451, there are many plot twists, which contributes to the excitement of the book. Because of the many descriptions though, the excitement score is a 7/10.
Finally, we will look at the moral of the book and how relevant it is to humans today. The moral of this book is very important. As one website puts it nicely, “People who conform to society are content living dull, mindless, entertainment filled lives” (The Importance Of Morality In Fahrenheit 451). This is very relevant to humans today, and is becoming more and more relevant as time goes on. Although this is the main moral of the book, there are tons and tons more if you look for a deeper meaning in different sections of the book. For those reasons, I give the morals of this book a 10/10.
To summarize, I gave the readability of the book a 4/10 because there are many hard sentences to read, but the sentences are meaningful if you take time to look deeper. I gave the excitement of Fahrenheit 451 a 7/10 because there are many exciting plot twists and events, but there is also a lot of description. Finally, I gave the morals of the book a 10/10, because most if not all of the morals in the book are relevant to society today. The overall score for this book is a 7/10, so it is a good book overall in my opinion. If anyone would like to see if they agree or disagree with this book review, they can try reading the book themselves to see if they like it. Thanks for reading this book review!
