After one of its products was used as evidence, drugstore makeup brand Milani Cosmetics weighed in on the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard defamation trial, revolving around when they released its product.
According to Peony Hirwani, Heard's lawyer, Elaine Bredehoft, claimed that Heard used Milani Cosmetics All In One Correcting Kit, which Bredehoft showed the court for covering up her bruises until she divorced Depp (The Independent).
Amber Heard is being sued by Johnny Depp for ruining his reputation after she wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post. Amber heard claims that Johnny Depp was verbally and physically abusive throughout their relationship, but Johnny denies this and says it is all a hoax.
“This is what Amber carried in her purse for the entire relationship with Johnny Depp,” Bredehoft said while holding the kit. “She’s an actor. Can you honestly think she would’ve left her apartment ever without makeup? Do you think that she ever would’ve wanted other people to see her bruises and her cuts?”.
But Heard filed for a divorce from Depp on May 23, 2016, and according to Milani Cosmetics the correcting kit was released in December 2017, so Heard could have never have used it.
Milani Cosmetics even posted a TikTok video, which has been viewed more than 5 million times, showing the video from the courtroom and with what appears to be documents about when the kit was released.
However, according to an NBC news article, “A source familiar with the situation who’s close to Heard said her attorneys were simply using the Milani kit as ‘an example of the kind of makeup that she used,’ adding that ‘it’s a sad day when a makeup company uses that as an opportunity to make light of what victims of domestic violence have to do to hide the results of the abuse they endure” (Rosenblatt).
This makes you wonder if Amber Heard is trying to set up Johnny Depp or if she was really abused. Peer Ashley Hansen says, “I think that Amber Heard is using the trial as a way for her to get attention and more fame. I don’t believe that Johnny Depp is abusing her. I think that if Milani Cosmetics makeup palette was simply just being used as an example, then the company would not have gone out of its way to confirm the date of which it was released.”
